Creating Bloody Text in Photoshop CS5

This is a beginner level Photoshop tutorial and it is assumed you have the necessary software installed on your machine.

Step 1) Preparing the Text

For this tutorial I used Myriad pro, but you can choose to use any font that you want. Most font websites offer many different choices. Once you have chosen a font and typed what you want on the screen we will be adding the following layer styles.

Step 2) Getting the Blood Brushes

You will need to download blood brushes of your choice. If you type those keywords into any search engine you will have some good results pop up that you can choose from. The style of the brush is all dependent on what you are trying to accomplish. Make sure that once you have downloaded the brushes you install them by double clicking the file.

Step 3) Adding the blood

To add the blood, create a new layer above the text layer and use a nice rich red color. Make sure the blood looks like it got spilled there, not just dropped strategically.

Change the blend mode of this layer to multiply to make sure the blood gets darker and falls over the text. To remove all the extra blood that is not laid on top of the text, all you have to do is press ctrl + alt + G. What this does is masks the layer selected with the layer underneath it. The hot key commands are for Photoshop CS5.

Congratulations you have successfully completed the creating blood tutorial. As always the source file will be available for your download to help you through the process of this tutorial.
